Turn an Excel spreadsheet of questions into a quiz

Upload your Excel (.xlsx) spreadsheet of questions to Cazuz and AI turns each row into a quiz question, using the choices and answers already in your cells. Put one question on each row with its choices and answer beside it, then play the quiz live on the board or set it as self-grading homework.

How to turn an Excel spreadsheet into a quiz

  1. Put one question on each row

Write the question in the first column, then each choice in the next columns, then the correct answer in a cell of its own, for example Question, A, B, C, D, Answer. Fill every cell in a row so nothing shifts.

  2. Save as .xlsx and choose where it will run

Save the file as Excel (.xlsx), up to 15 MB. Then press Create Game and pick Live Quiz, or press Create Activity and pick Assessment for homework.

  3. Upload the spreadsheet

Press From a worksheet and drop your .xlsx on the box. Cazuz reads every sheet on your computer and sends only the text of the cells.

  4. Say what to import

Keep Import every question ticked, or choose a number. Add a focus line if you like, then press Import worksheet. It usually takes under a minute.

  5. Check the questions, then play or assign

Read the quiz in the editor and change anything. Then host it on the board, or press Assign and share a link or QR code with a class.

What you get

  • Your own questions, not new ones, read row by row from your sheet
  • Every sheet in the workbook read, one after another, with each sheet kept apart
  • A bold cell read as the right answer, or an Answer column read as the key
  • A two-column sheet, such as a word and its meaning, can become a match the pairs question in an Assessment. Some of these types are on the paid plans
  • The same language as your sheet. Arabic stays Arabic, English stays English
  • Your file stays on your computer. Only the text of the cells goes to the AI

Questions teachers ask

What should my spreadsheet look like?
One question per row works best: the question first, then the choices, then the answer, each in its own cell, such as Question, A, B, C, D, Answer. The AI reads each row from left to right, and a blank cell is skipped rather than held open, so fill every cell in a row. Cazuz takes the questions you wrote and does not invent new ones.
Can I mark the right answer with colour?
No. In Excel, Cazuz reads bold and nothing else: not cell colour, underline, highlight or strikethrough. Bold the right choice, or put the answer in its own column. Word and PowerPoint files read more kinds of marks.
Does it read every sheet in my workbook?
Yes, every sheet with text in it, in order. Each sheet is kept apart, so questions on one sheet do not run into the next. Pictures and charts in a spreadsheet are not read.
Which spreadsheet files can I upload?
Excel (.xlsx) files up to 15 MB. Older .xls files and .csv files are not accepted: open them in Excel and save as .xlsx first. A Google Sheet can be downloaded as an Excel file.
How many questions can one import hold?
Up to 30 in one import. For a longer sheet, split it into several files. A very long sheet, about 40 pages of text, has its middle left out, and Cazuz tells you when that happens. Your plan can set a lower limit, and Cazuz says how many it imported and why any were left out.
Does it cost anything?
The free plan includes AI credits every month. One import uses one credit, and if the import fails the credit comes back. Credits refill on the 1st of each month.
Is my spreadsheet used to train AI?
No. Only the text of your cells is sent, to Anthropic's Claude, which does not use it to train its models. Remove any columns with students' names before you upload.
