Turn a PDF into a quiz with AI
Upload your PDF worksheet to Cazuz and AI pulls out the questions and answers already in it, then builds a quiz you can play live on the board or set as self-grading homework. If your PDF is lesson slides or notes with no questions yet, upload it as a lesson instead and AI writes the questions for you.
How to turn a PDF into a quiz
Choose where the quiz will run
Press Create Game and pick Live Quiz to play it on the board, or press Create Activity and pick Assessment to set it as homework.
Upload your PDF
Press From a worksheet and drop your PDF on the box, up to 15 MB. Word, PowerPoint and Excel files work the same way, and each has its own guide below.
Say what to import
Keep Import every question ticked, or choose a number. Add a focus line if you like, such as only the questions about plants, then press Import worksheet.
Check the questions
Usually in under a minute, the quiz is ready to open in the editor. Read it through and change anything. Nothing reaches students yet.
Play it or assign it
Host it on the board while students join at cazuz.net/play with a code, or press Assign and share a link or QR code with a class.
What you get
- Your own questions, not new ones, with the right answers taken from the answer key written in your PDF. Bold, underline and highlight marks are read from Word and PowerPoint files, not from a PDF
- Questions shaped for where they play: sized for the board in a Live Quiz, for students' own screens in an Assessment
- The same language as your worksheet. Arabic stays Arabic, English stays English
- Your file stays on your computer. Cazuz reads the text in your browser and sends only the text to the AI
- Marks worked out for you, with a report on every student and every question
- No student accounts. Students join with a code and a name
Questions teachers ask
- Can AI make a quiz from any PDF?
- It needs a PDF with text in it. A PDF made only of scanned pages or photos has no text to read, so Cazuz says so and stops. Upload the Word version of the worksheet instead (see Word to quiz), or upload the scan as a lesson, where AI can read the pictures on each slide. A file with no readable text is refused, and in practice that means scanned PDFs, since Word and Excel files hold real text.
- Does the AI write new questions or use mine?
- From a worksheet, it takes the questions you already wrote and does not invent new ones. It takes the answers from the answer key in your PDF, and only if no answer is written anywhere does the AI use its own knowledge, so check those. When a short answer has to become multiple choice, it adds the wrong choices. To get brand new questions, use From a topic or a lesson's AI Autopilot.
- Which files can I upload besides PDF?
- Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and Excel (.xlsx), up to 15 MB, and they read better than a PDF: Word and PowerPoint keep bold, underline, highlight and strikethrough as answer marks, and Excel keeps bold. See the Word to quiz, Excel to quiz and PowerPoint to quiz guides. Older .doc, .ppt and .xls files need saving again in the newer format first.
- What happens to questions it cannot import?
- Questions that depend on a picture, questions that need a long written answer and questions with no answer given are left out. Cazuz tells you how many it skipped, so you can add them by hand.
- Does it cost anything?
- The free plan includes AI credits every month. One PDF import uses one credit, and if the import fails the credit comes back. Credits refill on the 1st of each month.
- Is my PDF used to train AI?
- No. Only the text of your worksheet is sent, to Anthropic's Claude, which does not use it to train its models. Cut out any pages with students' names before you upload.
- Do students need an account?
- No. Students go to cazuz.net/play on any device, type the code or scan the QR code, and enter a name.
